Signal 03 · The territory

Being connectedis notknowing how to read it.

RMC Digital is an Evoke campaign about digital knowledge in the rural Colombian Caribbean. It follows young people who learn to use digital tools with judgement and pass that on to the people around them: who reads a suspicious message, who can explain it, who forwards it.

The name comes from the Red Micelial Común. Knowledge moves through a town the way mycelium moves under a field, person to person, invisible until someone draws it.

That story has not been drawn yet. You draw it.

See what the three days look like

The sprint, day by day

Three daysinside the story.

Day 01

The territory and the signal

You meet the subject, the Evoke universe and your team. You leave with a premise, characters and a conflict.

Day 02

Script, sketches and panels

You write, draw and build the sequence. Mentors move between the tables as the work takes shape.

Day 03

Presentation to the jury

Each team presents its prototype to the jury and the campaign partners. The winning team keeps working on the novel.

You do not need previous experience or published work. You need a team of 3 to 5 people, at least one who can draw, and something you want to say.

The detailed schedule for each day is sent by email before the sprint.

Four students work at a table with notebooks, a tablet and panel sketches.

Five roles, one team

Every team covers
five fronts.

The profiles come from the campaign brief. A team splits them however it wants, as long as all are covered and someone can draw. You pick yours when you apply.

Role 01 / 05

Narrative

You structure the premise, the characters, the conflict, the arc and the dialogue.

Role 02 / 05

Graphic design

You translate the story into visual language: concept, sketches, panel sequence and storyboard.

Role 03 / 05

Technology

You support research and the responsible use of digital and AI tools. You assess feasibility and document sources.

Role 04 / 05

Pedagogy

You make sure the story is useful to a real person: educational purpose, understanding of the subject and 21st-century skills.

Role 05 / 05

Management

You coordinate tasks, timelines, files and deliverables. You integrate the work and organise the final presentation.

Editions running · 2026

One global networkacross three universities.

The three 2026 editions run at the same time, with the same method and different subjects. Teams cross paths along the way: participants exchange work and mentors follow more than one site.

You create in Bogotá and talk to the people creating in São Paulo and Boulder.

Before you apply

Anything stillunclear?

Do I have to study at Areandina?

No. Applications are open to students at Areandina, UNIMINUTO and Universidad Compensar, and to anyone aged 18 to 28 who is not currently studying. The sprint takes place at Areandina Sede 201, in Bogotá.

Do I need a team to apply?

No. You can apply on your own and the organisers place you in a team on day one. If you already have a team, you list your teammates’ emails and each of them gets an invitation to apply. Teams are 3 to 5 people and at least one has to be able to draw.

Do I need to draw or have published work?

Not to apply. Of the five roles, only one is drawing: the other four are narrative, technology, pedagogy and management. You pick yours in the form.

What exactly will we create?

The prototype of a graphic novel about RMC Digital, the campaign subject. Over three days your team sets the premise, the characters and the conflict, writes the script and draws the panel sequence. On day three every team presents to the jury and the partners.

What does it cost and what is included?

Taking part is free. Meals are provided across the three days, along with mentorship from Mauricio Gaviria (Monigote Editores), Natalia Hernández (human-centred design) and Santiago García Devis (Frontera Design Lab).

How does the prize work?

The winning team receives COP 4,000,000 (USD 1,000) and credit in the published novel. The amount is per team, not per person. The organisers also plan incentives for second and third place, confirmed before the sprint.

When do I hear back?

The day after you apply. Applications close on 21 September, or earlier if the 50 places fill up.

What happens to my data?

It stays with the sprint organisers, to build the teams and write to you about this edition. You can ask for it to be deleted at any time by email. The detail is on the data use page.
